[Takuto's relaxing on the beach in Olivine. His feet are in the water and his Feraligatr is swimming in the water and having fun.]

I've been wondering. If you need to get Surf to pass through water areas, even the smallest of ponds, does that mean we can no longer swim long distances? I mean, there are people who could through big ponds like it would be no problem - why do they need to use Surf now?

[It's been bothering him the whole time he's been on the beach (he's never really thought about it before though).]

I'm not saying anyone should try like, swimming from Olivine to Cianwood, but really. Some of the water spots are just tiny.

[At least you didn't need to know Surf to go through puddles of water. That would be ridiculous.]

And while this is on... any tips for the Olivine gym? I'm thinking about challenging it in a few days.

It's probably safer to Surf than to try to swim. You might get eaten by something.

Oh right. That might be difficult... unless you'd have a water Pokémon swimming next to you or something.

Hmmmmm... I'm pretty sure you can at least swim over a pond. I've seen those swimmer natives doing it.

Swimmer natives? There are those as well?

Yeah. I've battled a couple of them while surfing. I've even seen them all the way out in the middle of the ocean, and it sounds like they swam out there themselves.

Either they're really athletic or they're crazy.

... I'd choose the crazy option, because that sure sounds like it.

[Larry nods, then laughs a little.]

You're probably right. I mean let's face it, the natives here aren't exactly normal. Or even close to it.

But still, they made it out there somehow, and maybe even without a Pokemon's help. So the option might be out there.

Yeah. I mean, if the natives can do something like that, why wouldn't we be able to?

... though I think I won't be trying that.

[And now Larry laughs pretty hard this time.]

I'm not expecting you to jump into the ocean and swim to Cianwood or anything! But you might be able to swim across a pond or river or something.

Hah, at least I'd get a lot of exercise with that-

[He's grinning slightly.] Though yeah, I guess that could work. Maybe that's worth a try at some point.

Yeah. I wanted to get a few more badges, so Mitsuki and I agreed on traveling together again.

Kira and I are on our way to Kanto ...

So it might be a while before we see each other again. It will definitely feel lonely for awhile.
